Coming Soon – Let Me In

Let Me In

The first trailer for Let Me In, the US remake of Let the Right One In has made it (unofficially) onto the internet. It stars Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road), and is written and directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield).

As remakes go, I think this is pretty pointless as I can’t how it can add to, or better, the original. I like the casting of Moretz, Smit-McPhee has a nice outsider look about him and the action looks well shot. However the gothy/emo soundtrack seems unnecessarily heavy-handed and I can’t help but worry that the original which was beautifully quiet and understated fhas been ramped up and dumbed down for an American audience. The one posssible good thing I can see in Let Me In’s favour is that it may make some of the Twi-hards realise that vampires don’t sparkle and that being one is a bloody, messy business.

I suspect this will not be an inept or bad movie necessarily, just a completely redundant one. Or am I being too harsh?

One Response to “Coming Soon – Let Me In”

  1. Nah, not too harsh at all. For what it’s worth, it looks similar in tone to (and even seems to lift some scenes directly from) Let The Right One In…but that’s the whole problem.

Still, there was some vagueness of Let The Right One In that ended up somewhat lost in translation (or maybe I’m just slow…there was stuff in the book that wasn’t needed in the film but was there, and other stuff that was glossed over and never touched on) so I’m reserving judgement until I’ve seen this (which I’ve ever intention of doing) and seeing if they clean up those teenytiny issues.

Oh, that, and if they improve on the CGI cats…
