Coming Soon – Knight and Day – interactive trailer

Knight and Day

Knight and Day is tipped to be one of the summer’s blockbusters. Starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz the “sexy action comedy” has Cruise as a covert agent set on a mission he was never expected to complete (shades of Mission Impossible black ops shenanigans?) while Diaz is a woman caught between him and the people he claims set him up. Their globe-trotting adventure comes complete with double-crosses, close escapes and false identities, and they come to realise the only people they can trust are each other.

You know, I’m not a fan of Cruise and that face he pulls when he’s trying to emote. Also, this sounds like a really cheesy 80s show in the vein of The Scarecrow and Mrs King.

However, a new trailer has been released on the official site, which is also an interactive game. As you watch the trailer, you can interact with the action, attacking the bad guys as per the instructions on screen. You can challenge friends to beat your score via Twitter and Facebook, presumably for braqgging rights only.

As a timewaster, it’s a neat little idea, but I’m not really sure what the intention is? I can’t see this particular tactic bringing in more bums on seats. I think it’s more likely people will go to see this because it’s Cruise and Diaz rather than a nifty Flash game trailer. But maybe I’m just an old cynic…

What do you think? Genius marketing or silly fluff? Thanks to Joblo.com for the original heads up.

Knight and Day opens on July 2nd in the UK.
