Torchwood Season Four Confirmed

The rumours about Torchwood moving to the US have been around for a while, and now Starz has confirmed acquisition of US TV rights in a deal that will show 10 new episodes in 2011 on Starz in the US and BBC in the UK.

Russell T Davies will be back as Executive Producer, along with Julie Gardner, and John Barrowman and Eva Myles will also be returning to the show.

“We’re committed to programming exceptional television that is entertaining, imaginative and provides a premium TV experience, and by any measure the new concept for ‘Torchwood’ fits that mandate”
Chris Albrecht – Starz President and CEO

The new concept will take Torchwood out of Cardiff and give it a more global view. While he Doctor Who spin-off has been of patchy quality, most would agree that last year’s “Children of Earth” gave the show a well-needed gravitas. The most recent Starz show seen in the UK is the risible Spartacus – Blood and Sand, it is to be hoped that Davies and Gardner can ensure programming of the quality of Season Three.

(Although I will admit, I have a secret wish that Captain John Hart will return…and that they find Torchwood2) has more on this, with quotes from Russell T Davies about what he has planned.

  2. […] month I blogged about the Torchwood Season Four being commissioned. A joint production between Starz and BBC, with Russell T Davies as writer and […]
